What Is BD+ and How Does BD+ Work?

BD+ Introduction

BD+, developed by Cryptography Research Inc and Sony Corporation and intending to prevent unauthorized copies of Blu-ray discs and the playback of Blu-ray media using unauthorized devices, is a component of the Blu-ray Disc Digital Rights Management system.
During the format war between Blu-ray and HD DVD, BD+ played a very important role as the reason that several studios supported Blu-ray over HD DVD. (Blu-ray adopted BD+ as copy protection scheme)

BD+ Encryption
Before a BD+-capable disc is mastered, random sections of the .m2ts files are overwritten by random data leading parts of the content corrupted, while the original data is stored encrypted within the BD+ content code -- the program inside the BDSVM directory of a BD+ protected disc performing a series of tests to verify whether it is being executed in a trusted environment. After the content code has verified the security of the execution environment, it sends a table with repair instructions (the "conversion table" or "fix-up table") to the player using the system call TRAP_FixUpTableSend (a system call is how a program requests a service from an operating system's kernel that it does not normally have permission to run; system calls provide the interface between a process and the operating system). The conversion table consists of one subtable, which consists of multiple segments containing the repair descriptors, for each .m2ts file on the disc. Repair descriptors then replace the corrupted part of the file with the original data by providing the raw data and the offset needed to repair sections of the .m2ts file.

BD+ Evolution
BD+ anti-copying system had several versions over the past years, from the 1st generation in the movie "The Day After Tomorrow" in 2007 to the newest 10th generation in "Rabbit Hole" till now in 2011. For more information about the BD+ generations, please visit http://forum.dvdfab.com/showthread.php?t=5175.

Passkey Solution
Passkey is capable of decrypting all known BD+ up to the 10th generation so as to help users freely watch any BD+ protected discs with any Blu-ray player or copy/clone/convert/rip them utilizing other software.
